The Municipality is organised in seven municipal units, each with its own character:
- Lefkada — the town and its surroundings: Agios Nikitas, Tsoukalades, Katouna, Apolpaina.
- Ellomenos — Nydri and the green east coast: Vlycho, Poros, Katochori, Vafkeri.
- Apollonia — the south: Vasiliki, Athani, Agios Petros, Syvros, Dragano and the road to Porto Katsiki.
- Karya — the mountain heart of the island: Karya, Englouvi, Pigadisanoi.
- Sfakiotes — the villages of the central plateau: Lazarata, Kavalos, Asprogerakata, Exanthia.
- Kalamos and Kastos — two small islands off the eastern coast.
